Saint Vendel image column
The road passes along the fine-contour Mayor’s Office in order to arrive at Vendel Row, at the beginning whereof you can find the Saint Vendel image column. In the 17th to 19th centuries, the fear from the frequent plague epidemics and other perils or the joy of being freed from them encouraged the communities to making a vow and - in order to strengthen their faith - to incorporate their sentiments into enduring works of art. This is why they erected these votive columns. On the street side, you can still read the date on the stone below the image, which tells that it was erected in 1829 upon the joyful occasion that the cattle-plague was gone from the village.
